Parents of 20 graduates allegedly kidnapped while travelling from Ibadan to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Imo State have called on the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, to intervene in efforts to secure their children’s release.
The parents made the appeal during a visit to the monarch at his Bodija residence in Ibadan, urging him to deploy his influence and personal connections to facilitate the rescue of the victims, who were said to have spent two days in captivity.
Speaking on behalf of the affected families, Alhaja Halima Akande and Mr Oyebola Michael Akande described the situation as deeply distressing, expressing concern over the safety and well-being of their children.
They called on the traditional ruler to lend his support to ongoing government and security operations aimed at securing the freedom of the abducted graduates.
Oba Ladoja received the delegation in the presence of the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Abimbola, and the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Oyebola Adeyeri.
In his response, the Olubadan acknowledged the seriousness of the incident and assured the parents that efforts were being made to resolve the situation.
Also speaking, Abimbola reassured the parents and the public that security agencies were actively addressing the incident.
He maintained that the government was “on top of the situation” but did not disclose specific details of the measures being taken to rescue the victims.
