The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has intensified efforts to secure the release of 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and other passengers kidnapped along the Owerri-Onitsha Expressway in Imo State.

As part of the rescue operation, Disu deployed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Shehu Umar Nadada, to the state to oversee and coordinate ongoing efforts to locate the victims and apprehend their abductors.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Abuja on Saturday.

According to the statement, Nadada arrived in Imo State alongside two Commissioners of Police and immediately visited the scene to assess the incident and evaluate the ongoing search-and-rescue operation.

She added that the police were collaborating with other security organisations to rescue the abductees and bring those responsible for the crime to justice.

Nadada reiterated the police force’s determination to secure the release of all the victims, stressing that the operation would continue until its objectives were achieved.

He also called on residents, members of the public and the media to remain calm and vigilant, urging anyone with useful information that could aid the rescue mission to report to the police or the nearest security agency.

The police assured the public that all information received would be handled confidentially, promising to provide further updates as the operation progresses.
