Members of the Oyo State House of Assembly have thrown their weight behind the governorship ambition of the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, pledging to mobilise support across the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was sealed during plenary on Tuesday following a motion raised under “Matter of Urgent Public Importance” by the Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Fadeyi, who represents Ona Ara State Constituency. Fadeyi described the Speaker as a stabilising force whose leadership has fostered harmony between the legislature and the executive arm of government.
Contributing to the debate, the Majority Leader, Sanjo Adedoyin, said Ogundoyin had demonstrated capacity and competence beyond expectations, noting that his leadership has ensured stability in governance.
Other lawmakers, including Babajide Gabriel, Abiola Olalekan, Olusola Owolabi and Gbenga Oyekola, also backed the motion, describing the Speaker’s style as inclusive, strategic and result-oriented.
The lawmakers further commended his working relationship with Governor Seyi Makinde, saying it has exposed him to governance dynamics and prepared him for higher responsibility.
The motion was subsequently adopted through a voice vote, signalling unanimous legislative support for his ambition.
Responding, Ogundoyin thanked his colleagues for the endorsement, describing it as a strong vote of confidence. He pledged to remain committed to his legislative duties while intensifying consultations across the state in pursuit of his governorship bid.
