The Oyo State House of Assembly has unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Governor Seyi Makinde and the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, dismissing widespread rumours of an alleged impeachment plot as unfounded and misleading.
The resolution was reached during Wednesday’s plenary session in Ibadan.
Lawmakers at the sitting reaffirmed their support for the executive arm led by the governor and the legislative leadership under the Speaker, stressing that the Assembly remains stable and focused on its constitutional duties.
The Majority Leader, Sanjo Adedoyin, who moved the motion, described the allegations as “baseless, distracting, and politically motivated.”
Adedoyin maintained that no formal communication or impeachment process had been initiated within the chamber, insisting that the House is united and committed to delivering democratic dividends to the people.
He warned that those spreading such claims were enemies of the state attempting to destabilise what he described as a performing administration.
The motion was seconded by the Deputy Speaker, Mohammed Fadeyi, who also described the Assembly as cohesive and commended the governor’s achievements, particularly in infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
Other lawmakers echoed similar sentiments, attributing the state’s stability to the strong collaboration between the executive and legislative arms.
In his remarks, the Chief Whip, Gbenga Oyekola, insisted that the Assembly cannot be influenced or manipulated by any individual or group, urging those behind the rumours to desist. He reaffirmed the House’s loyalty to the governor and confidence in the leadership of the Speaker.
The development comes amid growing political speculation in the state suggesting cracks within the political structure and a possible move to impeach the governor.
However, the Assembly’s unanimous position is a continuation of the long standing cooperation between the legislature and the executive under Governor Makinde’s administration, which has largely been characterised by policy alignment and institutional stability.
