The Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, has commended the Nigerian Army for strengthening security efforts and promoting peace and stability within the ancient Oyo Kingdom.
The monarch gave the commendation on October 1, 2026, when the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Auwalu Mahmuda, paid a courtesy visit to his palace during an inspection tour of newly established military formations and units.
Oba Owoade expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for approving the establishment of the 7 Brigade in Oyo, assuring the military of the support and cooperation of his people.
The monarch also pledged to ensure that personnel deployed to the new brigade enjoy a conducive environment during their stay, describing the people of Oyo as hospitable and accommodating.
Earlier, Major General Mahmuda explained that his visit was primarily to assess the deployment of troops to the newly established brigade and ensure that they settle properly and effectively carry out their constitutional responsibilities.
He said the establishment of the brigade was part of the Army’s strategy to expand its operational presence and deploy more personnel to areas where they could respond more effectively to emerging security challenges.
The GOC, on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, appreciated the Alaafin for the support extended to the troops, particularly the accommodation provided for personnel upon their arrival in the community.
Major General Mahmuda also held discussions with community leaders, assuring them that the newly established military formations and units were intended to remain in the area and contribute to maintaining peace and security.
He added that the Nigerian Army would continue to collaborate with residents and stakeholders to create a secure environment that would support economic and social activities in the community.
