The 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members abducted in Imo State have regained their freedom, days after their parents visited the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, seeking his intervention in securing their release.

The release was confirmed by Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, during a telephone conversation with Oba Ladoja at about 5:00pm on Wednesday.

The prospective corps members were abducted while travelling to Imo State to commence their National Service. Their abduction generated public concern after their abductors reportedly demanded a ransom of N1 billion, later reduced to N100 million, prompting their families to appeal to well meaning Nigerians and authorities for help.

Following the parents’ visit to the Olubadan’s palace, Oba Ladoja had assured them that he would step into the matter and explore possible avenues to facilitate the safe release of their children.

This development was contained in a statement signed by Adeola Oloko, Media Aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Details of how the victims were released, including whether any ransom was paid, have not been disclosed.
