The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, on Tuesday held a high-level strategic security meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, at the Police Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, as part of renewed efforts to address rising security concerns across the state.

The closed-door meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the legislative arm and the police command in tackling insecurity, particularly in border communities and vulnerable rural areas of the state.

The engagement comes amid growing public concern and recent legislative interventions by the Oyo State House of Assembly, following a series of motions, resolutions, and Matters of Urgent Public Importance raised in response to insecurity in parts of the state, including the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area and other incidents reported across the Oke-Ogun axis.

During the meeting, Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin commended the Commissioner of Police for what he described as his “remarkable impact and proactive leadership” since his deployment to Oyo State. He also praised the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their ongoing efforts in maintaining relative peace and stability across the state.

The Speaker particularly acknowledged the ongoing security operations aimed at securing the safe release of abducted pupils and teachers, expressing confidence in the professionalism, commitment, and coordination of security operatives involved in the rescue mission.
Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin further used the opportunity to emphasize the urgent need for strengthened security architecture in border towns and remote communities across Oyo State, noting that such areas remain highly susceptible to criminal infiltration due to their porous nature and difficult terrain.

He stressed the importance of improved intelligence gathering, increased patrol presence, and sustained proactive policing strategies, adding that a more coordinated security approach would significantly reduce incidents of kidnapping, banditry, and other criminal activities.

According to him, the Oyo State House of Assembly remains fully committed to supporting all lawful and proactive measures aimed at enhancing security and protecting the lives and property of residents across the state.
The Speaker reaffirmed that security remains a top legislative priority, noting that sustained collaboration between the legislature, the executive arm, and security agencies is essential to achieving lasting peace and stability.

He expressed optimism that continued synergy among stakeholders would further strengthen public confidence and ensure more effective security response across all parts of Oyo State.
