The Oyo State Police Command has successfully rescued an elderly couple abducted by suspected kidnappers in the Oke Ogun area of the state following a coordinated security operation involving multiple security agencies.
The victims, identified as Alhaji Busiru Booni and his wife, Alhaja Pitiku, were reportedly kidnapped on Saturday, July 5, 2026, when about five armed men stormed Tiro Village in Irawo, firing sporadically before whisking them away to an unknown destination.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, immediately ordered a joint search-and-rescue mission involving police operatives, the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, and hunters.
During the operation, security personnel recovered a Bajaj motorcycle earlier stolen by the suspects and abandoned in a nearby bush. The recovery, alongside the deployment of technology, helped the joint team trace the kidnappers’ hideout.
On approaching the hideout, the hoodlums engaged the security operatives in a fierce gun duel. However, due to the dense forest terrain, the suspects escaped with varying degrees of gunshot injuries, abandoning the kidnapped couple.
The victims were rescued unhurt, taken to a medical facility for examination and treatment, certified medically fit, and have since reunited with their family.
The Police Command has appealed to residents to promptly report anyone seeking treatment for suspected gunshot wounds or displaying suspicious injuries at any hospital or within their communities, stressing that such information would assist security agencies in tracking down the fleeing criminals.
The Command also commended the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, hunters, and members of the community for their cooperation and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across Oyo State.
