The Oyo State Government has denied reports that it spent ₦683.7 million to purchase a 2004 Toyota Camry and a 10-seater Toyota Hiace bus, describing the claim as a misrepresentation of its audited financial records.
The government said the ₦683.7 million figure cited in the report was listed under the budget line for “Advertisement and Publicity Awareness for the Public” and represented a programme-level expenditure covering different activities and logistics, rather than the cost of the two vehicles.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the government noted that the audited financial statement did not provide individual prices for the Camry and Hiace bus. It also cited other vehicle purchases contained in the same records, including a 2015 Toyota Coaster listed at ₦140 million and a 2021 Toyota Hiace Hummer Bus at ₦156.95 million.
The governmen, therefore, urged media organisations to exercise caution in interpreting official financial documents, insisting that no line item in the audited statement supports the claim that ₦683.7 million was spent on the two vehicles. It reaffirmed the Seyi Makinde administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability and responsible financial management.
