The Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) in Oyo State has denied involvement in the alleged attack on members of the Accord Party around Molete, Ibadan, accusing the party’s governorship candidate, Oriyomi Hazmat, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to tarnish its image.
Some Accord Party members were reportedly attacked by unidentified persons on Wednesday, prompting allegations linking the incident to the APM.
In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Amubode Tosin, the APM said it had no involvement in the incident, faulting what it described as attempts by the Accord Party and the APC to associate it with political violence.
The party also questioned a viral video in which Oriyomi Hazmat was seen displaying campaign material belonging to an APM candidate and allegedly claiming it was recovered from one of the individuals involved in the attack.
The APM maintained that its members were not gathered around the area when the incident occurred, explaining that its state secretariat had been relocated from the vicinity nearly a year ago. It added that it did not organise any campaign or political activity around Molete on the day of the incident.
The party accused the two opposition parties of attempting to divert attention from their political challenges and urged them to focus on presenting their programmes to the electorate rather than making allegations against opponents.
Reaffirming its commitment to peaceful political engagement, the APM called on residents to support Governor Seyi Makinde’s efforts to sustain peace and political stability in Oyo State.
