Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, saying his ambition is aimed at delivering accelerated development and improved governance across the state.
Adelabu made the declaration on Tuesday in Ibadan during a gathering attended by political associates, supporters and stakeholders from different parts of Oyo State.
The former minister said Oyo State requires visionary leadership capable of addressing economic challenges, improving infrastructure and creating opportunities for youths and women.
According to him, governance must focus on practical development that directly impacts the lives of residents through better roads, employment opportunities, industrial growth, agricultural expansion and improved social welfare.
Adelabu stated that his experience in public service and the private sector has prepared him for the responsibility of governing the state, explaining that his administration, if elected in 2027, would prioritise inclusive governance, economic growth, education, workers’ welfare, youth empowerment and rural development.
The governorship hopeful also stressed the need for unity among party members and stakeholders ahead of the electioneering process, noting that collective efforts is needed to reposition Oyo State for sustainable progress.
Adelabu further assured residents that he would pursue policies capable of attracting investment and enhancing the economic potential of the state, maintaining that Oyo State possess enough human and natural resources that could be harnessed for development with proper leadership and strategic planning.
Supporters at the event expressed confidence in Adelabu’s leadership capacity, describing him as an experienced administrator with a strong understanding of governance and economic management.
The declaration attracted political supporters and party loyalists who chanted solidarity songs and reaffirmed their support for his governorship ambition ahead of the 2027 election.
Adelabu previously contested the governorship election in Oyo State under Accord party platform as he remains one of the prominent figures within the All Progressives Congress in the state.
His formal entry into the race is expected to intensify political consultations and alignments among aspirants and stakeholders ahead of the party primaries and the 2027 general elections in Oyo State.
