The wife of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate for the Oluyole Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, Hajia Balkis Olatunji, has led women leaders and supporters of the party on a two-day grassroots mobilisation campaign across major markets, motor parks and communities in the constituency.
Hajia Balkis, popularly referred to as the First Lady of Oluyole, and other APM women leaders visited the Olode and Idi-Ayunre axes, engaging traders, transport workers, residents and community stakeholders while presenting the party’s message and soliciting support for its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
On the first day, the campaign team visited Muslim Market, Pegba Market, Ayetoro Market, Academy Motor Park, Olomi Market, Olunde Market, Ayegun Market, Boluwaji Motor Park and the Sanyo area, among other locations.
The mobilisation continued on the second day across Orita Challenge, Taska, Ojo-Ekun, Arapaja, Odo-Ona Kekere, Soka and adjoining communities.
During the engagements, the APM women also listened to the concerns and expectations of residents, with traders, transport workers and other community members expressing support for the party and its candidates.
Some residents described the leadership of Hajia Balkis’ husband and Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, as grassroots-oriented, saying his administration had strengthened his connection with the people.
They said they were committed to supporting Olatunji’s bid for the House of Representatives in 2027, describing his aspiration as a people-driven project and expressing confidence that his record at the local government level would translate into electoral support.
Speaking after the two-day mobilisation, Hajia Balkis said the exercise would continue beyond rallies, with the women set to commence house-to-house campaigns across the constituency.
“Following the successful completion of the awareness rally today, we are looking forward to commencing house-to-house campaign to further engage residents, strengthen grassroots mobilisation, and take the party’s message directly to households across Oluyole,” she said.
She added that sustained engagement with residents would enable the party to better understand their concerns while communicating its programmes and candidates directly to the people.
Hajia Balkis said the mobilisation was also aimed at building a formidable grassroots structure capable of reaching voters across Oluyole and galvanising support for her husband, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, as well as the party’s presidential candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde, and other APM candidates.
A women leader who participated in the exercise said the campaign reflected the growing intensity of grassroots political activities in Oluyole ahead of the 2027 elections, as parties increasingly take their messages beyond traditional rallies to markets, motor parks, streets and individual households.
