…Urges residents to channel grievances through community leaders, security agencies
The Special Adviser to Oyo State Governor on Arewa Community Affairs, Alhaji Ahmed Muritala Musa, has appealed to residents of Ojoo in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State to embrace peaceful coexistence and refrain from taking the law into their own hands following the recent crisis in the community.
Musa made the appeal after a visit to the Sabo area of Ojoo, where he met with the Head of the Hausa Community and other stakeholders to assess the situation and promote reconciliation among residents.
He also visited the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at the Ojoo Police Station and expressed confidence that the combined efforts of community leaders and security agencies would prevent any further breakdown of law and order.
According to the governor’s aide, preliminary information indicated that the disturbance was triggered by a business transaction involving a ₦500 recharge card allegedly altered to ₦5,000, as well as a fake bank alert of ₦8,000, which escalated tensions within the community.
Musa stressed that the Hausa and Yoruba communities in Ojoo have lived together peacefully for many years and should not allow an isolated incident to destroy their long standing relationship. He urged residents to report grievances through community leaders or security agencies instead of resorting to violence or self help.
He commended the swift intervention of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian military, and the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, for their prompt response in restoring calm to the area.
Musa also lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for his commitment to sustaining peace and preventing ethnic conflicts across Oyo State. He urged members of the Hausa community to continue living harmoniously with their Yoruba hosts, noting that mutual understanding and cooperation remain essential for lasting peace, security, and development in the state.
