The Oyo State Government has ordered the reopening of schools in Oriire, Oyo East, Surulere and Olorunsogo Local Government Areas from Monday, following the deployment of additional security operatives to the affected communities after the recent attack on schools in Ahoro-Esinele community.
The decision was announced by the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB), after a strict security review carried out in collaboration with security agencies and local authorities.
The state government had earlier expressed deep sorrow over the attack on LA School and Community Grammar School, Ahoro-Esinele, in Oriire Local Government Area, which led to the killing of a teacher and the abduction of some pupils.
In a statement, the Executive Chairman of OYOSUBEB, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, described the incident as a dark and painful moment for the education sector in the state, noting that the government shares in the grief of the affected families and communities.
Dr. Adeniran stated that the exact number of abducted pupils was still being verified as security operatives continued rescue operations and investigations in the area.
He, however, assured parents and guardians that the safety of pupils and teachers remains the top priority of the state government, adding that coordinated efforts by security agencies under the directive of the Commissioner of Police had significantly strengthened security surveillance across the affected axis.
He pointed out tactical response teams have been deployed, while intelligence and operational measures are ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted pupils and restoration of peace in the communities.
He appealed to parents, guardians and residents to remain calm, prayerful and avoid spreading unverified information capable of creating panic, assuring that the government would continue to provide necessary updates as the situation develops.
Dr. Adeniran also paid tribute to the slain teacher, describing his service and dedication as sacrifices that would never be forgotten, while reaffirming the commitment of the Oyo State Government to protecting every child within the school system.
