The Oyo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible forestry practices, strengthening collaboration with industry stakeholders to promote afforestation and inclusive environmental management across the state.

Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Ademola Aderinto, made this known while receiving members of the Oyo State Sawmillers and Timber Contractors Association at the Ministry. He stressed the need for stricter environmental compliance and sustainable forestry practices, noting that structured associations play a crucial role in maintaining discipline, orderliness, and effective engagement with government.

Aderinto emphasized that tree planting remains a top priority of the Ministry, describing afforestation as essential to ecological balance and long-term development. He warned against indiscriminate tree felling, particularly the use of immature timber, which he said poses serious environmental risks and could compromise construction safety.

The Commissioner urged stakeholders to uphold professionalism and adhere strictly to environmental regulations, adding that collaboration with the government is key to achieving sustainable resource management.

In his remarks, President of the Association, Kabiru Olajide, commended the Commissioner’s leadership and pledged continued compliance with environmental laws. He also called for government support in preserving forest reserves.
Olajide further disclosed the association’s readiness to partner with the government in producing tree seedlings, a move aimed at boosting afforestation efforts, restoring depleted forests, and enhancing environmental resilience in Oyo State.
