Despite issuing an earlier weather advisory this week, the Oyo State Government has again urged residents to prioritise preparedness as rainfall activity begins to pick up across the state, signalling the gradual onset of the rainy season.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Ademola Aderinto, said the renewed advisory is not a flood warning but a proactive measure to encourage residents to plan ahead, particularly those who travel long distances daily for work or business.
According to him, while heavy rainfall is expected in the coming days especially during evening hours, there is no indication of major flooding in critical areas. He cautioned against spreading panic, noting that the government’s intention is to promote safety awareness rather than raise alarm.
Residents were advised to take simple precautions such as leaving for home early to avoid being stranded, properly securing windows and properties, and staying alert to weather changes. The commissioner added that relevant agencies will continue to monitor the situation and provide timely updates throughout the season.
