Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has appointed acting board members for the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission (OYSERC) to fast-track the opening of the state’s electricity market.
The appointments include Dahud Kehinde Shangodoyin as Acting Chairman, Ayanniyi Taiwo as Acting Secretary, Solomon Oyekunle as Acting Technical Member, Abiodun Adedoja as Acting Strategy Member, and Omolara Omoremi as Acting Legal Member.
In a statement, Shangodoyin said the appointments mark a key step in implementing the Electricity Act 2023 and the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission Law 2024, which empower the state to regulate its intrastate electricity market, adding that OYSERC will focus on licensing electricity generation, distribution, mini-grids, and captive power projects, as well as regulating tariffs, monitoring service delivery, protecting consumers, and promoting private sector investment in local power solutions.
Shangodoyin described the move as part of efforts to open up Oyo’s electricity market, improve reliability, expand infrastructure, and strengthen accountability in the sector.
In a related development, OYSERC recently held a technical meeting with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) in Abuja to coordinate regulatory oversight and ensure a smooth market transition under Nigeria’s dual-tier electricity framework.
