The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed a suspected kidnapping incident that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, February 12, 2026, in the Challenge area of Ibadan.
Preliminary information revealed that the incident happened around 7:20 a.m. when a 12-year-old female student of a private secondary school was allegedly abducted by unknown armed men.
The young girl was said to have been taken at a junction leading to her school premises while alighting from a vehicle that had conveyed her to school.
The matter was promptly reported to the Police, prompting the immediate deployment of detectives to the scene for preliminary assessment and investigation.
Eyewitnesses have been identified and questioned, with their accounts providing useful leads to aid ongoing efforts.
The Police said the parents of the victim have been contacted and are working closely with the Command as efforts has been intensified to ensure the safe rescue of the child.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police has ordered a comprehensive, intelligence driven investigation into the incident, assuring residents that all necessary steps are being taken to apprehend those responsible.
The Command urged members of the public to remain calm and provide any useful information, assuring that such details will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
