The Trade Union Congress (TUC), Oyo State Council, has congratulated The Guardian’s correspondent, Comrade Rotimi Agboluaje, on his election as Secretary of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council.
In a congratulatory message, the TUC described Agboluaje’s victory as well deserved, noting that it reflects his professionalism, dedication, and integrity in the journalism profession.
Agboluaje emerged winner at the election held on Tuesday at the chapel’s secretariat in Mokola, Ibadan, after polling 31 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mr. Musliudeen Adebayo of Daily Post, who scored 10 votes. Also elected was Mr. Yinka Adeniran of The Nation, who clinched the chairmanship position with 31 votes.
While other members of the newly elected executive include Mr. Remi Koleosho, who emerged Vice Chairman, and Mr. Sheu Sulaiman of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), elected Treasurer, both unopposed.
The election was conducted by a three-member electoral committee led by Pastor Ola Ajayi and was observed by officials of the NUJ, Oyo State Council, including the State Chairman, Comrade Akeem Abas.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the TUC expressed confidence in Agboluaje’s capacity to deliver effective leadership. “His emergence clearly demonstrates the confidence and respect he commands among his colleagues. We are confident that he will bring professionalism and dedication to the office,” the statement said.
The congress also commended Agboluaje for his consistent commitment to ethical journalism and public service, expressing optimism that his tenure would further strengthen the Correspondents’ Chapel.
The TUC, Oyo State Council, wished him a successful and impactful tenure in office.
