President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday marked his 74th birthday in a subdued manner, citing the prevailing national mood and his longstanding personal tradition of low-key celebrations.
In a message to Nigerians, the President explained that his decision to keep the occasion quiet was in consideration of the country’s current realities.
“Consistent with my tradition of marking my birthday in line with the mood of the nation, I resolved to observe this year’s birthday in a low-key manner,” he said..
Tinubu expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their prayers, goodwill, and continued support, noting that he was deeply touched by the widespread show of affection from across the country.
“As I clock another year on the journey of life, I am filled with joy and gratitude for the opportunity to serve this great nation,” he added.
The President also acknowledged individuals and groups who celebrated him through newspaper publications and broadcast messages, commending their patriotism and solidarity with his administration.
He extended special gratitude to the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for her heartfelt message, as well as to Vice President Kashim Shettima for his commendations.
Reflecting on the nation’s situation, Tinubu admitted that Nigeria has faced significant challenges since the inception of his reforms but expressed optimism about ongoing progress.
He noted that while global developments, including tensions in the Middle East, posed temporary setbacks, there are signs of improvement.
According to him, the gains recorded so far are the result of collective effort by Nigerians, not just his administration.
Looking ahead to the third anniversary of his government, the President reaffirmed his commitment to tackling the nation’s challenges and called for sustained public support.
Tinubu urged Nigerians to remain united and committed to building a stronger, more resilient, and prosperous nation, expressing confidence that the country will overcome its current challenges and emerge better.
