Nigeria’s. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has decorated Tunji Disu with the rank of Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), following his recent appointment as the new head of the Nigeria Police Force.
The decoration ceremony took place at the State House, Abuja, marking Disu’s formal assumption of office after the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun.
Disu, who until his elevation served as an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, described his appointment as a profound honour anchored on years of dedication to policing and national service. He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him, noting that the president’s remarks during the ceremony were deeply meaningful.
According to the acting IGP, the president’s references to his professional track record and previous assignments showed that the performance of security personnel across the country is being closely monitored. He added that the comments also served as a challenge to further strengthen peacebuilding efforts and enhance public safety nationwide.
Disu emphasized that fostering stronger collaboration between police officers and citizens would be a central focus of his leadership, stressing that Nigerians remain the ultimate stakeholders in policing, pledging to instill in officers under his command the understanding that “the citizens of the country are the boss.”
