Former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, describing the meeting as a friendly engagement.
Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), told press men shortly after the closed door meeting that his visit was purely to see Governor Makinde and discuss issues of mutual interest concerning national development.
While responding to questions on the purpose of his visit and his political trajectory, Kwankwaso reflected on his long standing political career, noting that most of his achievements were recorded during his time in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
According to him, he has remained proud of his political roots, stating that his journey in politics and public service dates back to 1998 under the PDP platform.
Kwankwaso explained that he first served as Governor of Kano State from 1999 to 2003 and later returned to office from 2011 to 2015, emphasizing that his administrations were marked by significant infrastructural and educational development. He added that after his tenure, his political path eventually led him to become the National Leader of the NNPP.
The visit has sparked political interest in Oyo State and beyond, given the stature of both leaders in Nigeria’s political landscape. However, Kwankwaso maintained that the meeting was cordial and centered on national issues, dismissing speculations of any immediate political realignment.
