Leaders and elected officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State have begun moves to strengthen internal unity and address emerging challenges within the party as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 general elections.
The resolve was part of the outcome of a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held in Ibadan, where party leaders across various levels of government gathered to review the state of the party and deliberate on political developments in Oyo State.
Participants at the meeting acknowledged that while the party has maintained a strong political presence in the state, certain internal concerns affecting some zones and local government areas require attention.
They therefore assured members that steps would be taken to resolve the issues and sustain harmony within the party structure.
The stakeholders emphasised the need for party leaders and members to place collective interests above personal ambitions, stressing that unity and discipline pf critical to the party’s continued dominance in the state’s political landscape.
Discussions at the meeting also highlighted the performance of the current administration in areas such as workers’ welfare and infrastructure development, with stakeholders noting that such initiatives have strengthened the party’s acceptance among the people.
Party leaders present at the gathering included members of the House of Representatives, the Speaker and members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, as well as state and local government party executives.
At the end of the meeting, participants pledged to work together to maintain cohesion within the party and consolidate on its political strength in Oyo State as the next election cycle approaches.
