The Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engineer Akeem Olatunji, has commended the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Edward Ogundoyin, for what he described as an impactful and transformative tenure as Chairman of the Nigeria Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures.
Engineer Olatunji gave the commendation in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday, February 11, following the successful completion of Ogundoyin’s tenure at the helm of the Conference.
According to the Oluyole council boss, Ogundoyin’s leadership brought renewed purpose, visibility and coordination to the Conference, repositioning it from a largely ceremonial body to a policy-driven and reform-oriented institution with growing national and international relevance.
“Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin has proven that age is never a barrier to excellence in leadership. He truly embodies the spirit of the ‘Not Too Young to Run’ movement,” Olatunji said.
“His tenure was marked by courage, clarity of vision and an uncommon commitment to strengthening democratic institutions at the sub-national level.”
Olatunji noted that one of the Speaker’s most significant achievements was his sustained advocacy for the full implementation of financial and administrative autonomy for State Houses of Assembly, adding that the issue gained renewed national attention during his chairmanship.
He also praised Ogundoyin’s efforts in promoting capacity building and peer learning among Speakers and lawmakers through policy dialogues, retreats and technical engagements aimed at improving legislative oversight and lawmaking quality.
“The Conference under his leadership became a strong voice in national discourse on constitutional amendment, electoral reforms and good governance. For the first time in a long while, state legislatures spoke with a more united and coherent voice on issues affecting Nigeria’s federal structure,” he added.
The Oluyole chairman further highlighted Ogundoyin’s push for the standardisation of legislative procedures and best practices across State Assemblies, as well as his encouragement of digital innovation through the adoption of e-parliament systems and improved records management.
He said the emphasis on youth inclusion and leadership mentorship during Ogundoyin’s tenure resonated strongly with young Nigerians, describing it as a deliberate effort to prepare the next generation of legislative leaders.
Olatunji also acknowledged the Speaker’s mediatory interventions in resolving internal crises in some State Assemblies, noting that his calm, consultative approach helped preserve institutional stability during challenging moments.
“Beyond policies and communiqués, his leadership style was inclusive and bridge-building. He strengthened legislative-executive engagement without compromising the independence and oversight responsibilities of state legislatures,” he said.
Describing the tenure as a source of pride to Oyo State, Olatunji said it was a clear testament to the quality of leadership emerging from the state under the current democratic dispensation.
“As he hands over to his successor, his legacy will endure in stronger institutions, improved collaboration and renewed confidence in the role of state legislatures. Oluyole Local Government and indeed Oyo State celebrate him, we are proud to call him our own,” Olatunji concluded.
