The Oyo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a viral video in which an individual, identified as Shawama, allegedly claimed responsibility for killing 32 people.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the Command has no record of arresting any suspect bearing the name Shawama.
The police, however, assured that a comprehensive investigation has been launched to verify the claims contained in the video.
According to the Command, the probe is being carried out using advanced technology, including digital forensics and digital footprint analysis, to ensure a thorough and credible outcome.
The Command also appealed to members of the public to provide useful information that could aid in identifying and apprehending the suspect and his alleged accomplices.
It further assured residents that updates on the progress of the investigation would be made available as developments unfold.
