The Oyo State Police Command has foiled a planned bandit attack on Elebe Village, Aleniboro area, via Irawo Mine, at Atisbo Local government, neutralising two suspected attackers during an intelligence led operation.
The command said the swift response followed credible information from a resident who alerted security operatives to the presence of about 10 armed men hiding in a farm settlement with plans to attack the community under the cover of darkness.
According to the police, the suspects, described as armed Fulani men, were reportedly carrying two AK-47 rifles, single barrel guns and locally made pistols, while openly discussing their intention to unleash violence on the village. Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Tede Division briefed the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, who immediately ordered the deployment of additional operational assets to the area.
Operatives, working in collaboration with local hunters and members of the Agbekoya group in Aleniboro, stormed the hideout. The hoodlums reportedly opened fire on sighting the advancing team, leading to a gun duel. Two of the suspected bandits were neutralised in the exchange, while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.
A reinforcement patrol team later combed the surrounding bush and recovered a cut to size locally made pistol, one empty cartridge, two live cartridges, two expended 7.62mm AK-47 ammunition shells, substances suspected to be Indian hemp, two Tecno button phones and a bottle containing a suspected mixed drink.
The command said the area has been secured, with ongoing bush combing and surveillance operations to apprehend fleeing suspects and prevent further threats to Elebe Village and neighbouring communities. It also appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his continued support and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely intelligence to security agencies.
