The Oyo State Government has held a strategic meeting with waste management consultants to strengthen sanitation services and improve environmental sustainability across the state.
Speaking during the meeting, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Engr. Ademola Aderinto, said the government remains committed to restoring Oyo State’s status as a pacesetter in waste management and environmental protection.
- He explained that although the ministry has the authority to restructure the system, the current administration has chosen to retain the existing consultants to allow them demonstrate their capacity and commitment.
Aderinto noted that renewal of their contracts, due at the end of t
he month, will depend on performance evaluation, compliance with operational guidelines, and the number of public complaints recorded against them.
He added that all waste management operations will continue to be coordinated through the Oyo State Waste Management Authority, which will supervise the consultants and report to the ministry.
The commissioner also assured operators that outstanding payments for waste evacuation services from January would be settled within 48 hours, while efforts are ongoing to clear the backlog for November and December.Chairman of Oyo State Waste Management Authority, Hon.
