The Oyo State Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening the health and education sectors as the Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery matriculated 198 students for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Speaking at the institution’s third matriculation ceremony held on Tuesday in Ibadan, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, represented by Dr. Waheed Lanre-Abass, described nursing as a vocation built on compassion, sacrifice, resilience and unwavering commitment to humanity.
The Commissioner said the present administration is deliberate about repositioning Oyo State as a leader in healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
She noted that no health system can function effectively without well trained, competent and motivated healthcare professionals, adding that the matriculating students are beneficiaries of far reaching reforms introduced by the current government, stressing that the improved facilities and accreditation status of the College are direct outcomes of sustained investment in health infrastructure and human capital development.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Surveyor Segun Olayiwola, through Mr. Raheem Olatubosun,  commended the management of the College for successfully conducting the admission process and maintaining its reputation for excellence, describing the institution as a pride of the state, that has consistently produced nursing professionals making impact nationally and globally.
In her welcome address, the Provost of the College, Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi, described the ceremony as the formal commencement of the students’ professional journey. She emphasised that nursing is not just a career but a calling, urging the students to uphold discipline, diligence and integrity. While outlining the College’s comprehensive curriculum, which blends theoretical training with practical clinical exposure, she warned against misconduct such as examination malpractice and absenteeism, stressing that the profession does not tolerate mediocrity.
