Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has responded to the reported reaction of  former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, of being sidelined in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying he would not be dragged into personal disputes.
Makinde noted that while some individuals may “go low or into the gutters,” his focus and that of other party leaders remain on reaching out to all stakeholders to ensure a united and credible PDP.
Speaking in Lagos at the PDP Southern Consultative Summit, Makinde stressed that the party’s priority is to rebuild and foster inclusiveness rather than engage in internal squabbles. He assured that all aggrieved members would be carried along as part of efforts to reposition the PDP for the 2027 general elections.
The governor pointed to last weekend’s by-elections result, in which the PDP either won or finished second in several states, as evidence that the party is still vibrant and capable of reclaiming power if leaders and members work together. He explained that discussions at the summit centered on zoning, micro-zoning, and strengthening internal structures, with final decisions expected at the NEC meeting scheduled for Monday, August 25, 2025.
The Lagos summit was attended by key stakeholders including Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri; Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke; PDP BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara; Chief Bode George; former governors Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Udom Emmanuel, and Sam Egwu, among others.
Makinde maintained that with such calibre of leaders committed to rebuilding the PDP, Nigerians can look forward to a strong and united opposition in 2027.
