The Emeritus Supreme Head of the Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) Unification Church Worldwide, Dr. Adegboyega Solomon Alao, has urged the Federal Government amid increasing security challenges across Nigeria,  urgently implement far reaching security and structural reforms, warning that continued delay could lead  the nation into deeper crisis.
Dr. Alao said the establishment of state and local government police formations remains the most practical solution to tackling insecurity nationwide, noting that decentralised policing would curb the influx of unknown and undetected criminal elements into communities while strengthening grassroots intelligence.
Speaking in Ibadan at a press conference to herald the 96th Annual General Conference of the Sacred Cherubim and Seraphim Church of Nigeria, the cleric also advocated that Commissioners of Police and Divisional Police Officers should be indigenes of the states and communities where they serve, arguing that local officers would be more committed to protecting lives and property.
He further called for the strict enforcement of anti-open grazing laws across the country, warning that persistent attacks on farmers and farmlands pose a serious threat to national food security and could lead to famine if left unchecked.
Beyond security, Dr. Alao urged political leaders to confront what he described as deep-seated structural defects undermining national cohesion. He called for legislation against godfatherism, devolution of more powers to the states, and a comprehensive restructuring of the federation.
The cleric also proposed converting the six geopolitical zones into states, with existing states reclassified as provinces, as a way of reducing the cost of governance. He further advocated cutting the cost of running a bicameral legislature by limiting the number of representatives per state, regardless of landmass.
Dr. Alao warned that corruption, religious division, and over-centralisation of power continue to fuel insecurity and weaken national unity, cautioning that unless urgent and courageous steps are taken, Nigeria’s fragile security situation could spiral into deeper crises with grave implications for the country’s stability and future.
