The Executive Chairman of the Water Corporation of Oyo State (WCOS), Hon. Elias Adeojo, has urged young pupils to embrace faith and hope as vital tools for building a sustainable future.
Adeojo made the call on Thursday while speaking at the Catch Them Young Initiative Campaign held at IDC Pre-Basic & Basic School, Erinkoja Obe Owode, Apata, Ibadan, his alma mater.
He noted that the foundation laid by the school, alongside the guidance of his teachers and parents, played a crucial role in shaping his journey to success.
He stressed the importance of sound elementary education in national development, attributing his achievements to proper monitoring, discipline and strong collaboration between his parents and the school authorities. According to him, quality basic education remains the bedrock of any progressive society.
The WCOS Chairman also commended the educational reforms of the Oyo State Government under Governor Seyi Makinde, stating that the administration’s investment in the employment of over 15,000 teachers and the reconstruction of classrooms has significantly reduced the number of out-of-school children in the state.
Reflecting on his school days, Adeojo recalled serving in the school’s drum crew over two decades ago, expressing pride in returning as a success story. He encouraged pupils to shun truancy, dishonesty and other negative behaviours, describing them as future ambassadors of the state.
He further called on governments at all levels to prioritise funding  education to achieve improved learning outcomes.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the Catch Them Young Initiative and Bright Lens Media Networks, Mrs. Ayodeni Aluko, urged parents and teachers to remain committed to nurturing children’s talents for a more creative and competitive society.
Highlights of the event included children’s games and the inauguration of educational clubs such as JETS, Security, Environmental, Health and Press Clubs
