Health experts and creative professionals have emphasised the importance of music, arts, and healthy lifestyle choices in promoting brain health at Brain Fiesta 2026, held in Ibadan as part of activities marking the Brain Awareness Week.The event, organised by Brain Health Initiative Nigeria, took place at Brain Center Hospital, drawing students, healthcare practitioners, and members of the public interested in understanding neurological wellbeing.
Delivering a keynote lecture titled “Embodiment and Brain Health,” Dr. Temitope Farombi explained that the brain works in close connection with the body, noting that movement, nutrition, sleep, and social interaction all influence cognitive and emotional health. He stressed that simple daily habits such as staying hydrated, exercising regularly, and practising mindfulness can significantly improve brain function.
Also speaking, Dr. Bola Otegbayo highlighted the role of music in enhancing brain performance. According to him, music can improve memory, boost concentration, and aid emotional regulation, while also promoting mental flexibility.
In another session, actor Ayo underscored the impact of creative arts on brain development. He noted that activities such as acting, painting, and other artistic expressions help stimulate imagination, strengthen emotional intelligence, and improve problem-solving abilities.
Participants also engaged in interactive sessions, including cognitive games, brain exercises, and “brain talks,” designed to test and improve memory, attention span, and critical thinking skills.Organisers at the event reiterated that maintaining a healthy lifestyle through regular physical activity, balanced diet, adequate sleep, and active social life is essential for preventing cognitive decline and promoting overall mental wellbeing.
Brain Fiesta 2026 is part of global efforts during Brain Awareness Week aimed at increasing public knowledge of brain health and encouraging proactive steps toward maintaining cognitive fitness.Dr. Farombi added that caring for the body remains a fundamental step in protecting the brain, noting that incorporating music, creativity, and healthy living into daily routines can support cognitive function and healthy ageing.
