The Oyo State Government has sealed off Ar-Rahmon Khabul Herbal Nigeria Limited, located at 20 Cele, off Tioya Oritamerin Road, Ibadan, over confirmed environmental violations and concerns affecting public health.
The enforcement exercise was carried out by officials of the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority in collaboration with the Oyo State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.
Chairperson of OYRLEA, Rtd Hon. Justice Aderonke Aderemi, disclosed this on Friday, stating that the action followed multiple petitions from residents who complained of persistent offensive odour and health-related issues allegedly linked to the company’s activities.
The government’s intervention became necessary to protect public health, preserve environmental standards, and ensure regulatory compliance across the state.
Rtd Justice Aderemi explained that joint inspections conducted by relevant authorities revealed that the firm operates a herbal production facility within a densely populated residential area, in clear breach of environmental and public health regulations.
Investigations further showed that tobacco leaf is a major component of the company’s production process, producing a strong and putrid odour considered hazardous to residents and capable of posing significant health risks to the surrounding community.
Additional findings from the inspection included the emission of harmful and toxic gaseous substances into the atmosphere, the discharge of wastewater into a nearby community water body, the installation of a chimney considered too short and directly facing residential buildings, and the accumulation of solid waste within the premises despite claims of engaging a waste management contractor.
Justice Aderemi noted that before sealing the premises, the Authority had issued an abatement notice directing the company to cease operations and relocate within 21 days, in line with the Oyo State Environmental, Sanitation and Waste Control Regulations.
She reiterated that air pollution, hazardous waste discharge, and improper waste management constitute violations of environmental laws, warning that the government would continue to enforce compliance without compromise.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to sustained monitoring and strict enforcement to guarantee a safe and healthy environment for residents of the state.
