Award-winning Nigerian singer, Davido, has withdrawn the custody suit he filed against Sophia Momodu over their daughter, Imade, nearly 20 months after instituting the case at the Lagos State High Court, Yaba.
The legal action, filed in June 2024, sought joint custody of Imade, whom the singer welcomed with Momodu in May 2015. He had also asked the court to grant him unrestricted access to the child.
However, the “Unavailable” crooner has now discontinued the case, stating that there was no winner in the dispute.
In a statement shared on his X page, Davido clarified that he never requested full custody of his daughter but only a joint custody arrangement.
According to him, “Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade, so I don’t know why some people are celebrating. There’s nothing to celebrate.”
He added that his decision to withdraw the suit was influenced by remarks allegedly made in court by Sophia’s counsel, Ebelechukwu Enedah.
The singer expressed displeasure that his late son, Ifeanyi, who died in October 2022, was mentioned during proceedings. He described the reference as a “low blow” and accused the lawyer of acting unprofessionally.
Davido maintained that his daughter would grow up knowing he fought for her and urged all parties to move on.
The custody battle followed a series of public disagreements between both parents. Davido had previously alleged that he provided a N200 million apartment in Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, as well as a Range Rover SUV, to ensure Imade’s comfort and wellbeing. He also claimed to have consistently fulfilled his paternal responsibilities, while Momodu reportedly raised concerns about his suitability for custody.
With the case now withdrawn, attention shifts to how both parties will manage co parenting arrangements moving forward
