The Vice Chancellor of Kola Daisi University, Ibadan, Professor Olajumoke Abimbola Morenikeji, called for more opportunities and supportive policies to enable women, especially female academics to attain the peak of their careers despite the multiple responsibilities they face.
She stressed that women often have to combine academic and professional responsibilities with childbearing, family obligations and leadership roles, thereby adopting resilience, hard work and effective multitasking essential for their career progression.
The Vice Chancellor pointed out the challenges of age restrictions attached to some fellowships and professional opportunities, noting that it could be at some women’s disadvantage, though grants and fellowships abound in all fields of Profession.
According to her, extending the eligibility age for some opportunities could enable more women to catch up professionally and advance their careers, adding that women sometimes have to work twice as hard to reach the same level as their male counterparts.
She also urged young people to stop waiting solely for government or other individuals to create opportunities for them, encouraging them to develop entrepreneurial skills alongside their academic qualifications.
The Vice Chancellor said Kola Daisi University  promotes entrepreneurship and supports students to develop start-ups and practical skills that could make them self-reliant after graduation.
She admonished young people to work hard, remain focused on their goals and take responsibility for their future, stressing that they must see themselves as the architects of their own future.
