The Oyo State governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, has pledged to maintain and further strengthen workers’ and pensioners’ welfare if elected governor of the state.

Adekanmbi made the commitment on Friday, September 25, 2026, while speaking with traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders during his consultative visits to Saki West and Itesiwaju Local Government Areas.

At the palace of the Okere of Saki, Oba Surv. (Dr.) Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi (Oyedepo III), the APM candidate acknowledged the progress made by the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde in the payment of salaries, pensions and other statutory entitlements.

He said his administration would build on the existing structure rather than allow workers’ welfare to deteriorate.

He said,”Governor Seyi Makinde has set the baseline already about payment of salaries, pensions and other emoluments. I will only improve upon this baseline. Nothing will fall short of what it has been in this regard when I become governor next year,”.

The consultation also brought Adekanmbi into contact with traders, artisans, religious leaders, youth representatives and other groups across the two local government areas.

During the engagements, residents and community representatives highlighted several issues requiring government attention, including economic empowerment, healthcare delivery, security, infrastructure and broader participation in governance.

The stakeholders appealed for financial grants and other forms of assistance for traders, while religious leaders sought improved welfare provisions, including support for religious pilgrimages such as Hajj and visits to Jerusalem.

Other demands included the rehabilitation and upgrading of healthcare facilities, stronger security measures and faster implementation of community-based development projects.

The stakeholders further urged greater investment in higher education and the improvement of road infrastructure linking Oke-Ogun to other parts of Oyo State, the country and neighbouring states and countries within the region.

Responding to the various submissions, Adekanmbi expressed appreciation for the stakeholders’ openness and constructive contributions. He said the consultations were providing valuable insight into the distinct challenges and priorities of communities across Oyo State.

Although he noted that his manifesto already addressed several major issues affecting the people of the state, Adekanmbi said direct interaction with residents was helping to bring local and community-specific concerns into sharper focus.

He added that the views gathered during the consultations would inform his approach to governance and further reinforce his commitment to a responsive and inclusive administration if elected.
