Oyo State Governor and Presidential Candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Engineer Seyi Makinde, has reacted to criticisms from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, urging him to focus on the APM governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, rather than his administration.
Makinde, who spoke at the Boye Nation/JAF Movement Mega Concert at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, also defended his professional credentials, saying, “I’m an Engineer. My own professional calling gave me Fellow Nigerian Society of Engineers.” He added that Adekanmbi is a graduate and professional who is also a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
The governor further referenced the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) rank for legal professionals, saying their friend was not given the title “Junior Advocate of Nigeria.”
On criticism over the use of diesel-powered generators for streetlights in the state despite his background as an engineer, Makinde said the issue should be directed at their “father and boss,” whom he said had promised to fix electricity across Nigeria within his first four years in office.
He said, if that promise had been fulfilled, there would have been no need to power streetlights with diesel generators. He again advised Alli to concentrate on his governorship contest with Adekanmbi.
The concert, themed “Young, United, Unstoppable (YUU),” also witnessed the formal reception of popular Ibadan political organiser, Ajiboye Akande Sangogade, popularly known as Boye Nation, and his supporters into the APM.
Sangogade, an ally of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, led thousands of his supporters from the APC into the APM. The event featured performances by Fuji artistes, including Alhaji Taye Currency and Babatunmise, and was attended by APM leaders and candidates, including Oyo North Senatorial candidate, Hon. Shina Abiola Peller, and Oyo Central Senatorial candidate, Hon. Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, and other political stakeholders , party followers and stalwarts.
