Leaders and stakeholders of Igbo communities across Oyo State have declared unwavering support for Governor Seyi Makinde, commending his “transformational leadership” and inclusive governance.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Solid Minerals Development Agency, Oyo State Secretariat, Ibadan, the group praised the administration’s strides in infrastructure, security, and economic development, noting that residents across Ibadan, Oyo Town, Ogbomoso, and Iseyin continue to enjoy a peaceful environment for business and daily life.
The event, facilitated by former lawmaker Rita Orji, drew prominent Igbo stakeholders including John Idoko, Ogochukwu Ogbonna, Barrister Ndo Ofurunna, Ukachi Clement, Valentine Chukwu, and Kingly Ike.
The leaders pledged continued loyalty to Makinde and declared readiness to support any successor he endorses in the 2027 governorship race, stressing that continuity of purposeful governance remains vital for the state’s growth.
The association, however, warned against external political interference, accusing former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose of making statements capable of creating tension. It also alleged moves by certain political interests, including Nyesom Wike, to undermine the Oyo government through controversies surrounding the Olubadan stool, insisting the revered institution must not be politicised.
Describing Oyo as a model of peace and ethnic harmony, the group urged residents to remain calm and focused on development, while calling on political leaders to avoid divisive rhetoric.
They maintained that Oyo people are politically conscious and would resist any attempt to import external political battles into the state, reaffirming their commitment to unity, stability, and sustained support for the Makinde administration.
