The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, has taken a significant step in expanding his 2027 governorship ambition beyond his Ibarapa stronghold, unveiling a policy-driven campaign in Oyo town as he courts support from one of the state’s key political blocsmeeting that drew party leaders and PDP faithful from across Afijio, Atiba, Oyo East and Oyo West local government areas,
Ogundoyin shifted focus from endorsements to issues, presenting a governance blueprint aimed at positioning himself as a continuity candidate with a defined development agenda.
Central to the engagement was the unveiling of his “IGBEGA OYO Omituntun 3.0” roadmap, a document that outlines his policy direction across critical sectors including economic expansion, infrastructure, education and grassroots development.
The move signals an early attempt to frame the 2027 contest around ideas and performance, rather than zoning alone.
Political observers note that the outreach to Oyo Federal Constituency—outside his immediate political base—suggests a broader coalition-building effort, especially as the Speaker seeks to gain acceptance among established power blocs in the state.
Key figures at the meeting, including former Senate President pro tempore Monsurat Sunmonu and other party leaders, emphasised unity and sustained consultations, while allies of the Speaker highlighted his legislative experience and leadership track record as selling points for the race ahead.
