Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been released from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
His son, Bashir El-Rufai, disclosed the development in a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, announcing that his father had regained freedom after weeks in detention.
In the post, Bashir expressed strong emotions over the development, describing his father’s detention as unjust, while appreciating supporters who stood by the family during the period.
Nasir El-Rufai had been in ICPC custody since February 18 over allegations related to financial misconduct and other matters.
As of the time of filing this report, the anti-corruption agency has yet to issue an official statement clarifying the conditions surrounding his release.
Meanwhile, the development comes amid a period of mourning for the former governor, following the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who passed away earlier on Friday in Cairo, Egypt.
