The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has dismissed media reports suggesting that it has selected a gubernatorial candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing such claims as false, speculative, and unnecessary.
Some national and online media platforms had reported that unnamed individuals had been adopted as consensus candidates for governorship positions in Oyo and other states. However, the reports failed to provide details of those allegedly selected or the process behind their emergence.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Ibadan, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, clarified that the APC had not commenced any process for the selection of candidates for the 2027 elections. He emphasized that the party remains committed to due process and would strictly adhere to constitutional and democratic procedures at the appropriate time
Sadare urged party members and the public to disregard the reports, stressing that the APC is currently focused on concluding its internal congresses ahead of its National Convention in Abuja. He added that all qualified members interested in contesting in 2027 would be given a fair opportunity, assuring that eventual candidates would emerge through a credible and transparent process.
