Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has restated his unwavering commitment to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that he and his political allies have no plans to exit the party as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 general elections.
The governor made this known on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting at the party’s State Secretariat, where he outlined a clear roadmap for the PDP’s electoral strategy.
Central to his position is the decision to grant automatic return tickets to lawmakers currently serving their first term at both the National and State Assemblies.
Makinde explained that the move is aimed at sustaining stability and rewarding performance, noting that the party is satisfied with the contributions of its first term legislators. He stressed that continuity remains key to strengthening governance and consolidating the PDP’s achievements in the state.
In addition, the governor emphasized that all aspirants seeking elective positions in 2027 must contest under the PDP platform. He added that the party would adopt a consensus-based approach in selecting candidates, a strategy he believes will minimize internal conflicts and enhance unity ahead of the polls.
The declaration signals a strong push for cohesion within the party, as Makinde seeks to position the PDP for electoral success. Party stakeholders and supporters have since welcomed the development, expressing confidence in the governor’s leadership and his blueprint for maintaining the PDP’s dominance in Oyo State politics.
