The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has felicitated with Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast and the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr, urging them to sustain the virtues of discipline, sacrifice and compassion imbibed during the holy month.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman, Comrade Akeem Abas, and the Secretary, Temidayo Adu, the union described Eid-el-Fitr as a period of renewed faith, unity and reflection, stressing the need for adherents of Islam to uphold the values of peace, tolerance and mutual coexistence.
The council specifically commended its Muslim members for their resilience and dedication, noting that they effectively combined their spiritual obligations with the demands of their professional duties throughout the Ramadan period.
According to the statement, the lessons of sacrifice, charity and discipline learned during the fasting period should not end with the celebration but should continue to shape personal conduct and interpersonal relationships in society.
The NUJ also called on residents of Oyo State to use the festive occasion to offer prayers for peace, stability and progress of the state and Nigeria as a whole, particularly in the face of prevailing socio-economic challenges.
While urging governments at all levels to prioritise policies that will enhance citizens’ welfare and promote inclusive development, the union encouraged Nigerians to extend love and support to the less privileged during the celebration.
It added that acts of kindness and generosity remain central to Islamic teachings and are vital for fostering unity and building a more harmonious society.
