Students of Baptist Secondary Grammar School,, Ago-Aare, in Oyo State have called on the Federal Government and the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to urgently install speed breakers and other safety measures along the busy Ago-Aare–Saki road.
The appeal follows growing concerns over the dangers posed by speeding vehicles and heavy-duty trucks that ply the highway directly in front of the school.
In a viral video circulating online, the students lamented the increasing risk to their safety, noting that the situation has become more alarming with the ongoing road rehabilitation in the area.
While commending the authorities for improving the road, they warned that smoother surfaces have encouraged motorists to drive at higher speeds, thereby heightening the likelihood of accidents.
The students further urged relevant authorities to introduce traffic-calming measures, including pedestrian crossings, warning signs and speed bumps, to safeguard both students and staff who cross the road daily.
Efforts to obtain an official response from the Federal Ministry of Works were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
