  • The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially rolled out its digital certificate platform, WAEC DigiCert, in Nigeria and four other West African countries, including Ghana.

The new service, unveiled by WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, Demianus Ojijeogu, at the council’s headquarters in Accra, is designed to provide candidates and institutions with easier access to examination certificates through a secure mobile and web-based applicationAccording to WAEC, the DigiCert platform allows users to access, request, confirm and share digital versions of their original certificates seamlessly. Candidates who have misplaced their examination numbers can also retrieve them through the system, reducing the stress often associated with such processes.

The council noted that the digital platform offers cost savings, improved efficiency and enhanced security, guaranteeing the authenticity of certificates presented for verification. WAEC disclosed that the service had earlier undergone a successful pilot phase in Nigeria, receiving positive feedback from candidates and educational institutions.

However, WAEC clarified that the introduction of DigiCert does not replace the traditional printing and issuance of physical certificates. Both systems will continue to run side by side.

The WAEC DigiCert mobile application is available for download on both Android and iOS devices, while additional details can be accessed via WAEC’s official website and social media platforms.
