Oyo@50: Makinde Inaugurates Anniversary Planning Committee

Oyo State Governor,  Engineer Seyi Makinde, has inaugurated the Oyo State 50th Anniversary Planning Committee, stressing that the state has made remarkable progress since its creation and deserves to celebrate its golden jubilee in grand style.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony held at the Executive Council Chamber, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, Governor Makinde said his administration will continue to appoint competent individuals who can contribute to the state’s growth, irrespective of political affiliation.
The 11-member committee is chaired by former House of Representatives member, Hon. Saheed Akinade Fijabi, with former Head of Service, Alhaja Ololade Agboola, as Deputy Chairperson and Mrs. Ronke Adedayo as Secretary. Other members include Dr. Ajuwon (OON), Mr. Mustapha Rasaq Areo, Alhaja Fatimah Ololade Azeez, Mr. Samson Adejumo, Pastor John Olasunkanmi Alabi, Alhaji Gafar Bello, Compol Fatai Owoseni (rtd), and Mr. Samuel Adegboyega Badejo.
Makinde noted that the 50th anniversary marks a significant milestone, saying:
“When you get to 50 , whether as a person, an institution, or a state, it calls for celebration. We want  to roll out the drums, even in the face of the nation’s challenges, and celebrate Oyo State’s journey so far.”
He stressed that the celebration will be non-partisan, emphasizing that his government prioritizes competence over politics. “Parties will come and go, but our state will remain,” he said, adding that the committee’s mandate includes recognising past leaders, celebrating achievers, and showcasing Oyo’s development over five decades.
Governor Makinde also tasked the committee to reach out to former leaders, their families, and other citizens who have contributed to the growth of Oyo State.
 “We must use this opportunity to appreciate those who have served and sacrificed for this state,” he said. “Every administration has faced its own challenges, but what matters most is recognising their efforts and building on their legacies.”
Dignitaries at the event included Chief (Mrs.) Mutiat Ladoja; former deputy governors Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja and Engr. Hamid Gbadamosi; Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Mohammed Fadeyi (representing the Speaker); Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Iyabo Yerima (represented by Justice M.O. Olagunju); Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo; Chief of Staff, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi; Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, mni; and other top government officials.
